Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) began when several veterans and friends, moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, took action to help others in need. What started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they recover and transition back to civilian life. Thousands of wounded warriors and caregivers receive support each year through WWP programs designed to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment.
veteran’s day . thank you
November 11, 2011 Life
I grew up a Navy brat. I attended lots of different schools, went to kindergarten in Italy, and spent lots of young holidays missing my daddy. He spent months at a time on aircraft carriers and has probably been to 90% of the countries in the world. I grew up opening packages with silk kimonos from Japan, “magic” lamps from the Arabian desert, and letters that I treasured over all the rest. I remember waiting with all the other families as the ship would come in after six months – four feet tall holding a sign as big as I was. “Welcome Home, Daddy!” For every time he came home, I am endlessly thankful, for many military families are not so fortunate. Today, we remember everyone who has served and still serves – the ones who came home and those who didn’t. Happy Veteran’s Day.
Now that he’s retired from the Navy, he serves through his work at a Naval hospital – still giving back tirelessly. Oh, and he climbs mountains. Often. 😀
If you want to show your appreciation and support for our veterans, please consider making a gift to Wounded Warrior Project. This isn’t about how you feel about the military or the war; it’s about the people who are over there right now, have just returned, or are still recovering from their long-ago service.
